Erectile Dysfunction Remedies

What is Erectile Dysfunction (ED)?

Erectile Dysfunction, sometimes referred to as impotence, is a condition in which a man consistently experiences difficulty with achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for sexual activity. It affects up to 52% of men aged 40–70, however, it can occur at an earlier age as well. ED can impact psychological, relational, and physical health. As per the current statistics, approximately 150 million men worldwide experience this condition. In this article, I go over the symptoms, causes, types and remedies for erectile dysfunction that are clinically-tested.

Symptoms of Erectile Dysfunction

  • Trouble getting an erection.
  • Soft erections
  • Difficulty maintaining an erection during intercourse (loss of erection during intercourse)
  • Reduced sexual desire or libido.
  • Anxiety or stress related to sexual performance.

Common Causes of ED

Causes of erectile dysfunction vary from physical conditions, psychological troubles, as well as lifestyle factors.

Types of Erectile Dysfunction

  • Organic ED: Caused by physiological conditions, for example:
    • Nerve damage due to Diabetes
    • Blood flow obstruction due to Atherosclerosis
  • Psychogenic ED: Resulting from psychological or emotional problems.
  • Mixed ED: Combination of both organic and psychogenic factors.
  • Situational ED: Occurs only under certain circumstances (e.g., with a particular partner or under stress).

Complications of Untreated ED

  • Relationship strain and marital dissatisfaction.
  • Reduced quality of life.
  • Lower self-esteem and confidence.
  • Possible indicator of underlying cardiovascular disease.
  • May contribute to depression and/or anxiety-related disorders

Diagnostic Tests for ED

In order to properly manage erectile dysfunction, it is extremely important to have a clear picture of the what is causing the condition and to treat it. In order to know what is causing it, a proper diagnosis is needed.

Here are the tests that are typically done:

  • Physical exam: Genital, vascular, and neurological assessment.
  • Blood tests: Testosterone, glucose, lipid profile.
  • Urinalysis: To detect diabetes or kidney issues.
  • Ultrasound (Doppler): Measures blood flow to the penis.
  • Nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT): Detects nighttime erections to rule out physical causes.
  • Psychological screening: For anxiety, depression, or trauma.

Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction remedies range from herbs, supplements, and lifestyle changes. Of course, as mentioned earlier, it is important to concurrently manage the underlying cause of ED while also using remedies that can directly stimulate erections. Here are some remedies that can help manage the symptoms of ED:

Herbs & Supplements

Tongkat Ali also appears to reduce cortisol – a stress hormone that has the ability to hamper circulatory and metabolic health when chronically elevated.

L-Arginine + Pycnogenol

L-Arginine is an amino acid that increases nitric oxide thus enhancing blood flow. Its commonly used in sports supplements for supporting blood for the purpose of building muscle and getting a bigger pump when lifting weights.
