Clinically-Proven Weight Loss Remedies

diet-398612_1920Everyday people worldwide are searching for how to lose weight fast and without exercise. The problem is, weight loss is a goal that is seldom achieved by taking pills and supplements due to the fact that most of the products out there are ineffective and based on premature research which is usually carried out on animals rather than humans. Many of these supplements are marketed off of their so-called “traditional uses” or based on the fact that the people who live where the so-called berry or herb comes from are all very lean. The companies marketing these products fail to mention that the people in these places also live in poverty and don’t have enough to eat in order to become obese. On top of this, patients sometimes opt for surgeries such as gastric bypass and liposuction to lose weight, however, gastric bypass patients are constantly developing nutritional deficiencies.

Instead of useless supplements and costly surgeries, let’s look at how to lose weight naturally with things that are proven to work together with providing other health benefits.

The purpose of the article is not to bash any company or supplement but to rather share with you a few simple remedies that have been used in clinical trials and proven to be beneficial in weight loss. These are also remedies that I have used clinically with patients and they are relatively cheap to purchase – let’s not forget that I am not selling them therefore I don’t have anything to gain.

So what actually works for weight loss?tape-403595_1920

Firstly, it is crucial to understand what is the cause of your overweight condition. If you have underlying conditions such as hypothyroidism, polycystic ovary syndrome, or fatty liver disease then you need to address those conditions in order to achieve weight loss. I have seen patients with PCOS go on starvation diets and barely lose any weight. Hormones are a major part of weight loss and each of the above-mentioned conditions is associated with hormone irregularities.

Weight is not simply determined by calories. I have patients/clients who are doing the ketogenic diet and eating 3500+ calories daily while still losing weight. I have patients who chose to eat diets rich in whole grains because they were told that it’s healthy and have never been able to lose weight despite being in a caloric deficit. These two scenarios come down to one hormone “Insulin”. Anything that raises your blood sugar, such as whole grains, is going to cause a spike in insulin – a fat-storing hormone. As long as insulin is elevated, you are not going to lose much weight. The same applies to the estrogen/testosterone dysregulation in PCOS and the lack of thyroxine in hypothyroidism.

Clinically-Proven Remedies

If you are overweight due to lack of activity, poor diet, or metabolic syndrome, then the following remedies may be of help. Keep in mind that these are medicinal herbs used in clinical practice and can have drug interactions and side-effects if misused. Therefore, you must use these under the supervision of an Ayurvedic doctor.

1. Cissus QuadrangularisCissus_quadrangularis_(357012338)

Also known as Hadjod, Cissus Quadrangularis is a potent osteogenic and anti-obesity herb. It has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for treating fractures, bone-related disorders, joint pain, gynecological conditions, and obesity. It has been well studied in clinical research for its ability to speed up fracture healing and treat metabolic syndrome in obese patients. For example, in one double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial, overweight patients who took Cissus Quadrangularis experienced a significant reduction in weight and central obesity. They also experienced an improvement in metabolic factors such as fasting blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides as well as C-reactive protein (see study).

2. Salacia Reticulata (With Vitamin D)

Also known as Saptachakra, Salacia Reticulata is a herb used in Ayurvedic medicine for treating obesity, diabetes, hemorrhoids, dysmenorrhea, liver enlargement, and pain. In clinical research, Salacia was able to effectively treat diabetes type II by significantly reducing blood sugar levels. Reduced blood sugar means reduced insulin – this assists with putting the body into a state of fat burning. Salacia also inhibits the absorption of carbohydrates from food by blocking the enzymes amylase and glucosidase – making it a great tool for preventing weight gain when satisfying an occasional carb craving. In a clinical trial, patients taking Salacia Reticulata combined with Vitamin D were able to reduce their weight by 11 pounds in 4 weeks (see study).

3. Black Seed (Nigella Sativa)nigella-216510_1920

With a simple YouTube search, you will find that many people around the world are using Black Seed to lose weight and getting amazing results. Black Seed has been clinically tested for treating a wide range of health conditions including hepatitis C, diabetes type II, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, obesity, and more. Interestingly, patients with Hashimoto’s and Hypothyroidism may be able to lose weight with this as it was able to treat the condition in a clinical trial (see study). In eleven clinical studies, Nigella Sativa was used for the treatment of obesity and found to be effective in moderately reducing weight, body mass index, and weight circumference (see study).
