The Kidneys are the body’s filtration system. Basically the Kidneys filter the blood and throughout the day and removes waste from the body. They also regulate the balance of electrolytes and control the fluid balance within the body. When the body is constantly bombarded with large amounts of nephrotoxic (kidney harming) substances, the damage can be quite detrimental.
Many medications can harm the kidneys and cause severe damage which may lead to renal failure. Medications such as:
-Prozac, and several others including Antibiotics
Certain diseases can cause Kidney damage, such as:
-Hypertension/High Blood Pressure
Foods/Drinks that damage the kidneys:
-Excessive Meat and protein
How to detoxify the kidneys?
Coriander Seeds & Cilantro Leaves
This common herb is a powerful detoxifying agent for removing heavy metals from the body. Heavy metals are nephrotoxic and harm not only the kidneys, but the brain and heart as well. Coriander is also a diuretic, and promotes the proper functioning of the kidneys. Its also has anti-bacterial properties and is commonly used by Ayurvedic doctors to treat Urinary Tract Infections (UTI’s).
How to use it?
-Take a Cilantro supplement together with chlorella.
-Prepare a decoction of it: Take a handful of Coriander Seeds, and put it in a pot with 1 glass of water. Boil it until the water has been reduced to half the quantity. Strain it and let it cool. Prepare and drink this 2-3 times a day.
-The leaves can be chopped and added to your foods. It specifically works well with other kidney friendly foods like: Spinach, blueberries, apples, sweet potato, etc.
-Adding it to guacamole can be very effective since avocado’s contain a large amount of potassium which helps maintain the fluid balance in the body.
-Coriander works more effectively when combined with Chlorella.
In order to restore proper kidney function, rejuvenative herbs can be used.
Ayurveda possesses the most powerful kidney rejuvenating herbs in the world. The three best herbs for this are:
1. Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa)
2. Gokshura (Tribulus Terristris)
3. Neem (Azadirachta indica)
Among these, Punarnava is the best rejuvenator. The research on this herb is piling up and proving over and over how effective it is in a variety of illnesses, especially kidney diseases. Research has also proven its Nephro-protective (Kidney protective) ability. In Ayurveda, this herb is used for conditions such as Renal failure, Diabetes Mellitus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Kidney Stones, Urinary Tract Infections, Edema, Hypertension, Obesity etc. When taking this herb or any other Ayurvedic medicinal plant, make sure to consume a supplement of the “whole herb” and not the “extract”. This way, there are little or no side effects. This herb should be used under the supervision and guidance of an Ayurvedic doctor.
(Always use medicinal herbs under the supervision of a doctor)
