Most people turn to drugs and alcohol when they want to relax and feel good. This is because drugs and alcohol increase Dopamine, a neuro-transmitter which is responsible for the pleasurable feeling experienced with these substances. The problem with these options is that they cause severe damage to multiple organs including the brain, liver and heart. Apart from that, the fact that they alter your consciousness, prevents you from truly enjoying the experience. For example alcohol makes you feel good yet it basically paralyzes you. Ecstasy makes you feel amazing yet it prevents men from having erections. So if you think about it, it makes you temporarily feel good, destroys your body and actually prevents you from truly enjoying yourself.
There are safer, healthier and legal ways to increase Dopamine and consciously enjoy the pleasurable feeling BUT it should not be abused or it will also cause damage.
Mucuna Pruriens, a herb known for its ability to increase muscle mass, boost testosterone, and drastically raise libido, also happens to be rich in “L-Dopa”. L-Dopa is the precursor of Dopamine. By consuming this herb, you are able to raise your Dopamine levels naturally and far more safely while still maintaining proper consciousness to enjoy its benefits.
While this herb won’t make you “high”, it will certainly improve your mood and motivation, increase your sexual desire and stamina, all without the organ damage or hangover.
Men who take Mucuna Pruriens often experience an increase in erections and libido. It is also used to increase libido in females and has been known to increase the intensity of orgasms.
Naturally increasing Dopamine will give you a calm, relaxed and pleasurable feeling, without the nasty side effects. Although, Mucuna Pruriens will not drown your sorrows, it will certainly improve the way you feel if it is used correctly and with proper supervision of an Ayurvedic doctor.
Mucuna is safe to take daily, in proper doses. I personally recommend using a supplement of the “whole herb” rather than the “extract”, since this herb has been used in Ayurveda as a whole herb for centuries with no negative side effects. Extracts on the other hand are much stronger and may not be as safe. In Ayurveda, no side-effects have been seen with this herb, even in long term use. However, its still not advised to be taken in excess due to its L-Dopa content which can be harmful in large doses especially over a long period.
This herb is also used for treating a wide range of diseases in Ayurvedic Medicine including:
-Parkinson’s Diseases
-Hyperprolactinemia
-Muscular Pain
-Muscular Atrophy
-Arthritis
-Anxiety
-Erectile Dysfunction
-Andropause, etc.
Precautions:
Pregnancy and nursing: Dopamine reduces prolactin so its best to avoid this herb.
Low Blood Sugar/Diabetes: Mucuna Pruriens is used in Ayurveda to lower blood sugar, if you already have low blood sugar, this can lower it even more.
Low Blood pressure: L-dopa in Mucuna Pruriens can cause blood pressure to drop.
Mental illness: L-dopa may make certain mental illnesses worse.
Be sure to look up the list of possible side effects of L-dopa before taking it. Also, make sure to check with your doctor before starting Mucuna Pruriens to make sure it is safe for you.
(Always use medicinal herbs under the supervision of a doctor)
